Since the game of golf first originated, people have played the game for sport, the challenge, the camaraderie and the opportunity to return to the beauty and wonder of nature. The latter appeal is so overwhelming at The Natural that even nongolfing guests will finally comprehend why golf is the world’s fastest growing sport.

The Natural, located on the west side of Otsego Lake is very deserving of its name. This championship 18-hole golf course has been constructed on one of the most scenic sites in northern Michigan. The course was designed so golfers of different levels of ability could enjoy an exciting challenge amidst beautiful stand of oak, maple, birch, and pine; rolling terrain and some of the most visually outstanding wetlands in northern Michigan. While you take in the landscape, keep an eye out for the wildlife because during a round of golf you have a good chance of seeing deer, wild turkey, beaver, heron , and other water fowl.

The clubhouse is located on an elevated bluff overlooking the scenic wetlands. From the lounge area, guests can watch golfers finishing their rounds on the very challenging and picturesque holes #9 and #18.

Renowned for designing courses that reflect the environment’s natural beauty, Jerry Matthews-among the very few great golf architects-has created one of northern Michigan’s most outstanding golf experiences at The Natural.

The Natural is definitely not a fabricated or contrived layout, instead the layout is eighteen challenging and visually exciting golf holes that were found and embellished (not created) in the natural environment.

The Natural is a perfect example showing that golf and wet lands can coexist in a harmonious manner. Each hole at the Natural “fits” perfectly into the existing terrain making the golf course look like it has been there for years.
