MGN ON THE ROAD
We stopped by Treetops Resort to do a TV show on their Michigan Winter Senior Olympics. As much as we were honored to do the show, it was small potatoes to what CBS did last year. They covered the event and put 15 minutes of it on Sunday Morning.
Joe LaForest, Director of Marketing for Treetops put together the project. The snow was perfect and long time ski director, Pat Samilak did a nice job in showing us around. Next year, begins the official reign of Rick Smith and his management team. The first meeting of the Gaylord Golf Mecca will see a lot of new faces this year.
While doing the show, we had the opportunity to visit Gaylord's Sportsplex, and the memorial within the building that is dedicated to Dick Weber. Dick Weber was certainly one of the classiest people I have every met. His hospitality credentials were impeccable, having graduated with his twin brother from the prestigious Cornell University program. He was a visionary of the first order, not only contributing to the development of the Gaylord Golf Mecca, but the Sportplex.
Dick we all miss you.
MICHIGAN GOLFER TV SHOW-MISSISSIPPI GOLF
Host Bill Shelton, returns to his roots, as he takes some time to play some Mississippi golf.
Bill was born in Mississippi, the son of a preacher man. During his college years he was involved in a campus radio show on sports and really liked doing that. However, education called and he went on to excel in the field, serving as President of Eastern Michigan University for 11 years. Bill is how President Emeritus of EMU and also serves as a faculty member in the College of Education's Educational Leadership program.
Join Bill, as he visits some exceptional golf courses in his home state. Mississippi, like every other state in the union, is anxious to attract some golfers from our state. I am sure that after this show, you will be intrigued by the possibility of visiting the state.
24/7 Always On
AOL, MSN, EARTHLINK YIELD GROWTH TO CABLE AND TELECO BROADBAND
According to an article in Monday's New York Times, AOL, MSN and Earthlink have all peaked with dial up subscribers. Consumers are moving to broadband in large numbers and in doing so are working with cable and telephone companies. Broadband increased from 10 to 16 million last year, out of a total of 60 million online consumers.
LONDON GOLF SHOW BEGINS THIS WEEKEND
The always successful London Golf and Travel Expo begins this weekend. This is the 9th annual show and it is a good one. London is about two hours from Detroit and the show is located in the Western Fair Event Centre.
THERE IS NO BUZZNESS LIKE SHOWBUZZNESS
Show medics have begun to offer ideas to help revive the PGA Merchandise Show for 2004. Some ideas include, opening it up to consumers on the last two days, staging it in the fall hosting a consumer demo day on the Monday following the show and using more of the game's star power in an effort to kick off the golf season at the show, rather than the traditional Masters start. There are others who feel that the show is less relevant than it has been in the past. Some companies have taken to flying their clients right to their facility to show them their new products. Whatever happens, it is certain that Reed Exhibitions will be heavily involved.
MICHAYWE AND PINES BACK TOGETHER AGAIN
Together again! The Pines Golf Course and The Lake Golf course, both located in Michaywé just south of Gaylord, Michigan have re-united.
The Pines course is owned and managed by the Pines Club Corporation, a subsidiary of the Michaywé Owners Association. The Lake course remains privately owned but will be managed by The Pines Club Corporation for the 2003 golf season. Don White, Director of Golf and PGA professional for the Pines course will manage both courses.
Turning 30 years old this year, The Pines course has been the nucleus of the Michaywé community. In 1987 a group of local investors and property owners, M-8 Investments, opened The Lake course adding a second golf course to the Michaywé amenities. The two courses operated together for approximately six years. Until recently The Lake course has been managed by another property in the Gaylord area.
Early operational plans for the 2003 season are in progress. The 2003 Season pass will include both courses. Season pass options will include: a mid-week pass, six day limited or seven day unlimited pass. Otsego County residents will enjoy special savings on both courses. Tee times may be made by calling 989-939-8911 locally or toll free, 888-746-3742.

AS THE WORM TURNS
Internet viruses in January expanded to include a number of new outbreaks, including one inspired by singer Avril Lavigne. "The newcomers to the Dirty Dozen included: Worm/Avril.A, Worm/Avril.B, Worm/Sobig.A, and Worm/Yaha.M2," according to Central Command Inc., the Medina, Ohio virus tracking and software company whose name sounds like something out of "The Matrix." "If the month of January is any sign of the year to come, we could be in for a very long year," said Steven Sundermeier, product manager at Central Command. The new viruses accounted for 36 percent of all infections. The viruses utilized the "well-known vulnerability that allows for an attachment to be automatically executed within the preview pane of Microsoft Outlook," according to the tracking company.

TIGER CONTINUES AS HONORARY CHAIRMAN OF THE BUICK SCRAMBLE
Buick announced today that Tiger Woods, the world's number one golfer, will return as honorary chairman of the Buick Scramble national amateur golf tournament for a second season.
As the honorary chairman of the 2003 Buick Scramble, Woods will be featured in tournament marketing and advertising materials and is scheduled to participate in the awards ceremony following the conclusion of the final round of the National Championships at Grande Lakes Orlando on October 12.
"Tiger has been an outstanding spokesperson for Buick since we signed a marketing partnership with him in 1999," said Larry Peck, Buick's golf marketing manager. "We are very excited to announce that he is scheduled to continue in his role as Buick Scramble Honorary Chairman in 2003, the 20th anniversary of this great tournament."
"I am honored to continue as honorary chairman of this great event, one that I tried to play when I was an amateur," said Woods, who begins his fourth year as a Buick spokesperson. "I look forward to returning to the exciting atmosphere of the Buick Scramble National Championships in October this year."
PARVIEW OFFERS ANOTHER VIEW
Art, I caught your television show and wanted to tell you that Thad Gutowski and Phyllis Barone missed the most exciting and latest GPS technology at the recent PGA Show by missing the ParView booth. We introduced two new revenue producing software packages and a valuable management tool.
The first one is our Ad-Man GPS Software. Courses can institute their own
revenue generating advertising program, simply and in a cost effective
manner. This allows courses to put on-course advertising at your fingertips
and will significantly increase those revenues at any facility.
The second was our Pocket PC Tournament & Scoring Manager. Now Tournament
Directors can, from the staging area, set up tournaments, assign names to
carts, make modifications in "real time" with ParView. Multiple tournaments,
simultaneously...POWERFUL, USEFUL and here today. Also, the added Live
Leaderboard feature will be an industry standard.
Lastly, Thad and Phyllis missed our GPS Tracker which can be installed on
maintenance vehicles, utility vehicles and food/beverage carts. Knowledge is
king and with ParView there is no better GPS management system to manage
large and small facilities.
We will have to set up a demonstration with the many new courses about to
install ParView throughout the Midwest. We will keep you apprised of the
results in the next month.
We're primed and ready to be pumped. Fire up Art!

HOW NOT TO QUIT MOVIES-CRAIG BRASS SUPPORTER OF DANIELS'S SUPERSUCKER
Normally Jeff Daniels wouldn't need a grassroots movement to get people to see his films, but this project is totally independent and the advertising budget is sparse. The movie was conceived, created and made in Michigan. A strong opening weekend would give the movie a great boost. So instead of seeing Lord of the Rings for the 3rd time, go see a laugh out loud comedy chalk-full of local talent.
SUPERSUCKER is the story of rival door-to-door vacuum cleaner distributors Fred Barlow (Jeff) and Winslow Schnaebelt (Harve Presnell) as they battle for territory and survival in a "winner takes all" contest. When perennial underdog, Fred Barlow, rediscovers a long lost cleaning attachment, the contest turns as he and his team of misfits determine "non-traditional" uses for the housewife's little helper. Big laughs and worth the money just to see 3,000 screaming women run through downtown Jackson in the middle of the night.
Thanks much and forward this to a movie-going friend.
