The Country Club of Jackson
Established in 1914 and located in northeast Jackson, Mississippi, The Country Club of Jackson is a private club situated on 400 acres of lush real estate. Using the acronym CCJ, the club prides itself on being member-owned and family-oriented; indeed, it offers activities, events, and amenities to appeal to every member of the family. When, over a hundred years ago, a group of businessmen decided to purchase 100 acres in order to launch a country club so far outside of the city that it could only be reached by car, The Country Club of Jackson was born.
Eventually, in order to make it accessible to all in the community, the club moved to 400 acres in the more centrally located area of northeast Jackson. In 1963, it opened its doors at its new location and, since then, has been a favorite destination for members and non-members alike. In the late 90s, a state-of-the-art fitness center, known for its quality and convenience to the community, was constructed, which included a full-service spa. From 2007 to 2009, the club was renovated, with special attention being paid to the golf courses. In addition to a world-class golf course, amenities include a fitness center and spa, racquet sports, croquet, a pool and youth lounge, and event facilities and planning.
The Country Club of Jackson offers a total of 27 holes of golf consisting of three courses. While the first two, Dogwood and Azalea, are technically two separate courses, they are combined to form the championship course where both open and invitational tournaments are held. Dogwood serves as the front, or opening, nine; Azalea makes up the back, or last, nine. The Dogwood-Azalea course has five different tee locations and plays 7,400 to 5,100 yards. The third course, Cypress, is considered a “family” course as it offers many tee locations, from 3,500 down to 1,800 yards to accommodate seasoned and junior golfers alike. Situated on rolling hills and dotted with lush trees, these impeccably landscaped courses are both beautiful and functional.
Speaking of juniors, in order for them to hone their skills and improve their game, the club offers a junior program headed by Cory Vincent, Director of Instruction. This program offers weekly golf clinics, as well as a variety of golf schools during the summer. Also, CCJ hosts one of the most highly regarded tournaments for juniors in the nation. The CCJ Junior Invitational, nicknamed The Gator, is held annually in February. While it started out as a competition between the premier private and public schools in Mississippi, it has now grown to attract the best junior golfers all over the region and is recognized by the American Junior Golf Association.
Arguably, the most renowned tournament held at CCJ is the PGA Tours’s Sanderson Farms Championship. Beginning in 2014, CCJ began hosting this event held in the fall. A charitable event, it raises money for the Blair Batson Hospital for Children. Throughout the years, many celebrities have participated in tournaments and events at CCJ, to include: Bob Hope, Bryon Nelson, Lee Trevino, and Jack Nicklaus.
The Country Club of Jackson is located at 345 St. Andrews Drive, Jackson, MS. 39211.
